Confronting the Weight-Gain Trap: My 130-Day Reframe

And why it’s a slippery slope if I don’t get it done before Xmas 2026

I’ve hit a wall, and my wearable data isn’t lying.

The Alignment campus has more to support you than just written content. Subscribe to find out more about what the campus has to offer your own chronic illness journey.

For six years, I’ve done everything right on my alignment pathway. I don’t drink alcohol. I don’t smoke. I do Qigong every morning, push-ups daily, meditate four times a week at dawn, and hit my 6,000 step baseline consistently.

Yet, as I sit at this desk, my scales show an 86.9 kg peak. That’s a 5% body weight increase over recent months.

In standard terms, 5% sounds like nothing.

In cardiac terms, with my baseline Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) score sitting at 1,649 (four times the acceptable limit), a 5% weight spike triggers a 20% increase in the potential risk of an extreme vascular event.

The green tea my naturopath suggested isn’t shifting the dial anymore. My visceral fat, that deep, metabolic fat wrapping around organs, is creeping over the safe threshold as we exit winter in Australia.

I refuse to sit on the edge of the canyon waiting for gravity to take over.

Instead of whinging or guessing, I’m treating my health as an active occupation. The other day on Sessions From The Edge, I interviewed Vic Cherikoff, Australia’s pioneer in wild food science. Vic doesn’t deal in cultivated commercial crops; he studies native bush foods, packed with ultra-dense, wild phytonutrients gathered from uncultivated environments.

I’m stepping into the lab to see if wild foods could be a long term solution.

I think Vic might have the answer and if it works, well, it could be far better than commercial weight loss dreams or the controversial GLP drugs which are great for people without other chronic conditions already taxing their system.

What ever I try, it has to be economical in comparison to other solutions, it has to have very fewer side effects or negative consequences and above all, it has to drop my weight from 86.9 kg to 82.0 kg before Christmas 2026.

That’s 130 from the day of this recording.

We aren’t just measuring scale weight. If I do this it’s going to have some rigour to the trial so let’s see what happens next.

Key Insight

Wild-food phytonutrients deliver concentrated, uncultivated botanical antioxidants that reduce systemic inflammatory stress without taxing digestive energy, safeguarding your Jing during metabolic recalibration.

Titan Question

Where in your daily routine are you substituting hard data with comfortable assumptions, and what single metric are you avoiding?

Reflective Affirmation

“I am not starving my body to force a short-term result; I am nourishing my system to unlock natural alignment.”

P.S - I held off releasing this because I wasn’t sure if I was prepared to go through with it. But if not me, who, and if not now, when. hmmmmm where have we heard this one before???
